stitching sock monkeys

Many of you have written in asking for sock monkey patterns and/or tutorials for Project 15 :: Sock Monkeys for Texas. Thanks to my friends on the Craft Hope facebook page, I have compiled a quick list of sock monkey patterns just for you…

Craft Stylish  (Pattern from the Craft Hope book. Free!!)

Craftbits

Super Sock Monkey

Web Goddess

They are all pretty much the same. You take a basic pair of socks. Knee high if you want really long arms and legs. Cut it up, stuff it, connect the limbs, and add the eyes and whatnots. Voila! Mischevious monkey!

Here are the monkeys from Project 4. Be inspired!

Aren’t they the cutest little fellas and ladies you have ever seen? The deadline to send us sock monkeys for this project is Thanksgiving-ish. Please leave a comment on this post if you want to join us.

Keep calm and craft on. No monkey business!

{Project 15 has now ended. Thank you to those of you who made sock monkeys for the children in Texas who lost their homes to wildfire in the summer of 2011. Please check the Craft Hope website for the most current project.}

I’m very excited about this! I’m a native Texan living overseas in Germany and lived in Georgetown 2 years ago, so this is a near and dear cause for us. I will try to send as many as possible!!!! :)

  • I’ve never made a sock monkey before, but this seems like a good reason to start!

Thank you so much for doing this. My best friend from 6th grade lost her home in the Bastrop fires. Her husband has just returned from serving in Iraq 4 weeks earlier. They have 2 young daughters, 4 and 9. This touches me on a deep level. I have never made a sock monkey before, but I will be trying my hardest to get some made and sent to you.

I absolutely love this!! Combining such a cute craft with a good cause is awesome. I have never seen such creative looking sock monkeys before. I would definitely love to join in on making these. Thanks for providing some awesome tutorials to make it easy for others to get involved!

  • Danielle says:

I will make some, and am asking around to see if my friends will help too.

  • Hey Jade, I am getting my mother’s group together to made some of these. We live in Austin so I was hoping I could just drive up to drop them off and save my self some postage. I’m also working with a group of students at a local High School on this so hopefully I’ll have a jungle of monkeys for you.

  • I made one and will try to send it this week! Thanks for posting links to the tutorials- they were helpful. I will blog about this and try to get more people to participate!

  • LAN says:

Two purple monkeys should be on their way in the next week from Bay Village Ohio!

  • Wow. I just realized the irony of this for me. I lost my home to fire just three weeks ago in Arkansas. One of the things I was the most upset about losing was the Craft Hope book I had just purchased the week before. I think I will go get me another copy for my birthday today and sew a sock monkey for Texas. I went to Southwestern University my first year of college, so I am loving the connection in all of this! Thank you for all you do! I lead a mission group for children at our church and we craft and sew for charity as well!

  • Crystal says:

I missed the last one but I will definitely be making sock monkeys. I already have 6 pairs of socks to make them with.
